1. What Is 7 Wonders?
Looking for a fast, replayable board game for family nights and adult game nights? 7 Wonders is almost impossible to skip. Designed by Antoine Bauza and published by Repos Production, this card-drafting civilisation game has sold close to 2 million copies worldwide, won more than 30 international awards, and holds a BoardGameGeek (BGG) rating of about 7.7. In just 25–30 minutes you build an ancient city from its first stone to its highest tower, developing military, science, trade and culture through three Ages.
What makes it a classic is three "just rights": the playtime is just right (25–30 minutes, no long waiting between turns), the depth is just right (10 minutes to explain, hundreds of games to master), and the player count is just right (2–7 players, so it never fails at a party). That is why it tops so many "best board games for family" lists.
游戏简介(中文): 玩家扮演古代文明古城领袖,通过卡牌轮抽在三个时代内发展军事、科技、商业与文化,三十分钟内建成一座奇迹之城。

3. Game Objective
After three Ages, the player with the highest total victory points (VPs) wins. Points come from your wonder stages, cards, military conflicts and leftover coins. In a tie, the player with the most coins wins. Plan from the first card: resources, science, military and trade can all lead to victory.
4. Setup in 5 Steps
- Deal one Wonder board to each player; choose a side (Day side recommended for beginners).
- Sort the 148 cards into Age I / II / III decks; keep only cards whose player count fits your table.
- Take the purple guild cards out of Age III, shuffle, and add back "players + 2" cards.
- Give each player 3 coins; put the rest plus the conflict tokens in the middle.
- Deal 7 Age I cards to each player. The game begins.

5. Turn Structure: Choose, Reveal, Act, Pass
7 Wonders has no turn order — everyone acts simultaneously, which is why a full game takes only about 30 minutes with zero downtime. Each turn has three steps:
Step 1 · Choose: pick one card from your hand and place it face down.
Step 2 · Reveal: everyone reveals at the same time, then takes one of three actions.
Step 3 · Pass: give the remaining cards to your neighbour — pass left in Ages I and III, right in Age II.

6. Resources & Trading
There are 7 resources: stone, wood, clay, ore (basic) and papyrus, cloth, glass (manufactured). Resources are never consumed — once you build a producer, you can use it every turn.
- Sources: your Wonder's starting resource, brown/grey cards, and some yellow cards and Wonder stages.
- Buy from a neighbour: pay 2 coins per resource you need; the neighbour cannot refuse.
- Restrictions: you may only buy a neighbour's starting resource and brown/grey card output.
- Chains: from Age II, if you already built a card with the matching chain symbol, some later cards can be built for free.

7. Military Conflicts
At the end of each Age, count the shields on your red cards and Wonder, then compare your total with each neighbour separately. That is two comparisons per Age and six in the whole game. The best possible military score is 18 and the worst is -6.
8. Beginner Strategy Tips
- Build your economic base in Age I: grab brown/grey resource cards and early chain starters. A really good score is 60+.
- Commit to science or don't touch it: identical symbols score quadratically.
- Don't ignore military: you only compare with your two neighbours, but +3/+5 in Ages II–III are big swings.
- Don't forget your Wonder stages: free points if you can pay.
- Watch what your neighbours pass you: drafting is about predicting what comes back.
